Janie L. Hendrix joined hosts Jon Faine on radio station 774 ABC Melbourne’s ‘Conversation Hour’ earlier today to talk about the myth and legacy of Jimi Hendrix.

Widely hailed as the greatest debut album in rock music history, North American syndicated rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock examines the Summer 1967 release Are You Experienced by the Jimi Hendrix Experience with two of the principles who actually made it, recording engineer Eddie Kramer plus the late Hendrix drummer Mitch Mitchell.

Experience Hendrix LLC and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release a restored and newly expanded edition of Jimi Plays Berkeley, on Blu-ray and DVD, on Tuesday, July 10.

In an historic alliance, the renowned reissue label Sundazed Music has partnered with Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. to release a series of new 7″ picture-sleeve vinyl singles featuring unique and hard-to-find vintage performances by Jimi Hendrix.

Last night in Papantla, Mexico, Janelle Monáe (who recently performed with the Experience Hendrix Tour in Atlanta, GA) went full-Hendrix with a cover of Jimi’s Axis: Bold As Love classic “Little Wing.” Monáe delivers a dead-on rendition of the guitar god’s most beloved ballad, though she adds a sultriness that makes her “Little Wing” sound like it was re-imagined by one of Prince’s Paisley Park protégés.
