Robert Randolph and The Family Band will bring their brilliant version of “Purple Haze” to life on Late Night with Conan O’Brien on NBC this Thursday night, February 10. Randolph’s pedal steel lead on the song underscores the artist’s innovative powers and the timelessness of the Jimi Hendrix classic. The track was, not coincidentally, recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York, the state-of-the art facility that was founded by Jimi Hendrix in 1969
On Sunday, February 13, Grammy winners will be announced and one of those nominated this year is Musiq Soulchild for his version of “Are You Experienced?” that is also featured on Power of Soul. The track by the inventive Philadelphia-based artist is a contender in the Best Urban Alternative category.
Power of Soulis a 19 track collection that includes interpretations of Jimi Hendrix songs by Santana, Prince, Sting, Earth, Wind & Fire, Bootsy Collins, Eric Clapton, Lenny Kravitz, Devoted Spirits, Velvet Turner, Chaka Khan, Sounds of Blackness, Eric Gales, Cee-Lo, John Lee Hooker and Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble. It was released last year by Experience Hendrix through Imagine Entertainment.
